HUMASFKIPUNRI INFO - Pekanbaru, September 11, 2025 — The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Riau (FKIP UNRI), welcomed a delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at the FKIP UNRI campus. The visit was attended by three UNHCR representatives: Emily Bojovic, Senior Protection Officer; Melisa Sidabutar, Protection Associate; and Muhammad Rafki Syukri, Protection Associate.

The UNHCR team was warmly received by the leadership of FKIP UNRI. In his welcoming remarks, Dean Prof. Dr. Jimmi Copriady, M.Si. expressed his appreciation for the well-established collaboration, affirming that FKIP UNRI remains open to expanding cooperation with UNHCR, particularly in education and humanitarian initiatives.

Also present was Dr. Ir. Sofyan Husein Siregar, M.Phil., Vice Rector IV for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems at Universitas Riau. He emphasized the importance of expanding this collaboration beyond FKIP to other faculties across the university, thereby enabling more students to actively participate in international, humanitarian-based programs.

Meanwhile, Ns. Yufitriana Amir, Ph.D., Head of the International Affairs Center (PUI) at Universitas Riau, highlighted that FKIP and the university as a whole have conducted many international activities, yet still face challenges in obtaining official certifications that would further strengthen recognition of these initiatives.

Representing UNHCR, Emily Bojovic expressed appreciation to FKIP UNRI for the opportunities and support given to refugee communities. She conveyed hope that the collaboration will not only continue but also grow stronger and more extensive in the future.

This visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between UNHCR and FKIP UNRI in supporting the Refugees Corner program and the implementation of humanitarian-focused Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). Through this synergy, FKIP UNRI demonstrates its commitment to contributing actively to global issues while broadening student engagement in humanitarian activities.
