HUMASFKIP INFO - Pekanbaru, January 19, 2026 — The Biology Fair (Pekan Raya Biologi/PRB) 2026 was officially opened on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. WIB, held at the M. Diah Building, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Riau. This event marked the opening of a series of academic Olympiads organized by the Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Riau in 2026.

The opening ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including the Acting Head of the Riau Provincial Office of Environment and Forestry, Mr. M. Job Kurniawan, AP, M.Si; Drs. Muhammad Yuzar, M.Pd, a Widyaiswara (Senior Instructor) from the Riau Provincial Office of Education; Dr. Ria Novianti, S.Psi., M.Pd, Vice Dean III of FKIP Universitas Riau; Dr. Darmadi, M.Si, Head of the Biology Education Study Program; as well as lecturers and study program coordinators within FKIP Universitas Riau.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Darmadi, M.Si, as Head of the Biology Education Study Program, stated that the Biology Fair 2026 was attended by a total of 1,578 participants from various schools and educational levels. The large number of participants reflects the strong enthusiasm and public trust in PRB as a high-quality academic competition.

Furthermore, Drs. Muhammad Yuzar, M.Pd emphasized that quality education can be initiated through Olympiads that integrate learning theory and practice. Activities such as the Biology Fair provide a healthy competitive environment and offer opportunities for students from various levels to develop their potential and achievements.

At the national level, educational Olympiads have become a strategic means to encourage the improvement of learning quality. In Riau Province, there remains considerable room for further development of such activities, thus requiring collaboration among educational institutions, higher education institutions, and local governments. Therefore, the Riau Provincial Office of Education fully supports this activity as a strategic momentum to enhance learning quality, competitiveness, and student achievement.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ria Novianti, S.Psi., M.Pd explained that the Biology Fair marks the beginning of a series of Olympiads organized by 16 study programs within FKIP Universitas Riau, which will be implemented gradually from January to May 2026.

This year, the Biology Fair has begun to be directed toward the national level. Since 2025, the activity has been initiated for registration with the National Achievement Center (Pusat Prestasi Nasional/Puspresnas), although several administrative requirements still need to be fulfilled. Support from lecturers and students is highly expected so that this activity can be officially registered and gain national recognition in 2026 in accordance with applicable regulations.

As the opening Olympiad, the Biology Fair is expected to run smoothly and serve as a strong foundation for the implementation of other study program Olympiads within FKIP Universitas Riau.

In his remarks, Mr. M. Job Kurniawan, AP, M.Si stated that the entire series of PRB 2026 activities represents a concrete effort to address community needs. The Riau Provincial Government fully supports this activity, as regional progress is determined not only by the abundance of natural resources but also by the quality of human resources.

He also advised the student organizers to use the Biology Fair as a platform for self-development in preparing for future responsibilities. In addition, the activity is expected to foster environmental awareness and increase understanding of the importance of maintaining balance between society and nature.

Concluding his remarks, he expressed his congratulations and best wishes for the successful implementation of the Biology Fair 2026. It is hoped that this activity will build strong collaboration, provide tangible benefits to the community, and become a sustainable program. Appreciation was also extended to all sponsors and supporting parties who contributed to the successful implementation of the event.
