HUMASFKIPINFO – Pekanbaru, February 9, 2026 – The Physics Education Study Program of Universitas Riau once again demonstrated its commitment to advancing science education through the organization of the 20th Physics Olympiad, held from February 9–13, 2026. Carrying the theme “Opening Horizons with Young Physicists to Strengthen National Credibility Toward Indonesia Emas 2045,” this prestigious event brought together young physics enthusiasts from various educational levels.
The 20th Physics Olympiad was officially opened by the Vice Rector III for Student Affairs and Alumni of Universitas Riau, Prof. Dr. Hermandra, M.A. In his remarks, he expressed appreciation for the consistency of the Physics Education Study Program in organizing impactful academic activities that contribute to the development of science and the improvement of human resource quality.
This year’s Olympiad was conducted in a hybrid format, enabling participation from various regions. A total of 1,099 participants, ranging from elementary school to senior high school levels, took part in the event. Specifically for the senior high school category, participants competed in three written test areas: Mechanics, Astronomy, and Geoscience.
In addition to the main competition, a variety of engaging contests enriched the event, including the Physics Science Quiz, 3D Wall Magazine Competition, Ranking 1, Student and University Poster Competition, Scientific Writing Competition (LKTI), Essay Competition, and Educational Video Competition. These competitions were designed to sharpen participants’ academic abilities, creativity, and scientific communication skills.
The event also featured a National Seminar for Teachers, attended by 130 participants. The seminar presented distinguished speakers, Prof. Dr. Nur Islami, S.Si., M.T. and Dr. Berry Kurnia Vilmala, M.Pd., who shared insights and innovations in physics teaching to enhance the quality of education in schools.
The 20th Physics Olympiad of Universitas Riau marked an important milestone in fostering collaboration among academics, educators, and young generations in advancing physics education. Beyond being a competitive event, it served as an inspirational platform to nurture innovative, ethical, and forward-thinking young physicists who are ready to contribute to the improvement of human resource quality and the realization of Indonesia Emas 2045.
