The History Education Study Program Student Association (HIMA PRODI) Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Riau University (UNRI) held the Opening of the 12th History Olympiad in 2024 with the theme, "The red coat, through history, has created a generation that is intellectual in realizing freedom of learning” on Monday, February 19 2024 at the M. Diah Building, Riau University. This routine agenda, which is held every year, is attended by elementary school/equivalent, middle school/equivalent, high school/equivalent students throughout Sumatra and university students throughout Indonesia.

The opening series of events was attended by the Dean of FKIP, Prof. Dr. Jimmi Copriady, M.Si. who on this occasion was represented by the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni and Cooperation, Ria Novianti, S.Psi, M.Pd, Coordinator of the History Education Study Program, Asyrul Fikri, M.Pd, Governor of Riau Province, who on this occasion was represented by Assistant 1 for Government and Welfare of the Riau Provincial Secretariat, Zulkifil Syukur, MA, M.Si, Head of the Pekanbaru City Education Service, represented by, Head of the Pekanbaru City Education Curriculum Section, Dr. Hj. Kamala Sia Rio Nita, M.Pd, lecturers and students of the History Education Study Program, as well as Olympic participants.

 

The opening was initiated by the Coordinator of the History Education Study Program, Asyrul Fikri, M.Pd,

"There are a lot of participants in the Olympics this period, there are 1000 participants taking part, made up of elementary school/equivalent, middle school/equivalent, high school/equivalent levels throughout Sumatra and university students throughout Indonesia. Because this Olympics is national, there are participants from various regions, such as West Sumatra, Riau Islands, Gorontalo and East Java. "Because this Olympics is national and participants come from various regions, we will do it online for the final."

 

 

The activity then continued with the opening by the Dean of FKIP, who on this occasion was represented by the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni and Cooperation, Ria Novianti, S.Psi, M.Pd, "When the Study Program Coordinator said that there were 1000 participants taking part in the Olympics, it was an extraordinary thing because most people consider history education to be less interesting, but today we see together that so many participants show the enthusiasm of all of us about this history. is a very important subject without history we would not know about our identity as individuals, as citizens." 

"I hope that the quality of this history olympiad will be even better in the future and will certainly make students more enthusiastic about studying history and the accompanying teachers and lecturers who are milestones for history education will be more enthusiastic about producing innovations for fun history learning." He said

 

 

Followed by welcoming remarks from the Head of the Pekanbaru City Education Service, represented by the Head of the Pekanbaru City Education Curriculum Section, Dr. Hj. Kamala Sia Rio Nita, M.Pd, "The Education Department has a Subject Teachers' Conference (MGMP) program, they have events gathering social studies teachers throughout Indonesia. This history olympiad can be seen as support from the campus for teachers. "The latest and most up-to-date information also needs to be communicated to MGMP, so I hope that FKIP UNRI can work together with MGMP so that the friendship by discussing existing history will certainly be even better."

 

 

The activity was then continued and officially opened by the Governor of Riau Province, who on this occasion was represented by Assistant 1 for Government and Welfare of the Riau Provincial Secretariat, Zulkifil Syukur, MA, M.Si"On behalf of the Riau provincial government, we welcome the implementation of history olympiad activities by FKIP, Riau University's history education study program, which carries the theme 'Red coats, through history creating an intellectual generation in realizing freedom of learning'. This activity was carried out to raise awareness for students of the history education study program in developing a competitive life. “The Riau provincial government appreciates this Olympic activity, and we can say that we should not forget history because Indonesia grew because of history, therefore we also hope that educators don't forget history.”

The competition branches in this activity include; Debate, 3D Mading, Object Photos, Scientific Writing, Quizzes, Caricatures, etc.
