HUMASFKIPUNRI INFO -Pekanbaru, September 15, 2025 — The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Riau (FKIP UNRI), officially opened the 16th International Conference on Lesson Study (ICLS) 2025 on Monday, September 15, 2025. Carrying the theme “Transforming Education through Lesson Study: Building Sustainable Learning Communities in the Digital Era,” the conference brought together leading education experts from around the world to share ideas and best practices.

In her report, Prof. Dr. Evi Suryawati, M.Pd., Chair of the ICLS 2025 Committee, emphasized that the conference serves as a platform for knowledge exchange from renowned international speakers. She expressed hope that the implementation of lesson study at Universitas Riau and across Indonesia would continue to advance and deliver tangible benefits for society. The program featured welcoming remarks from Arif Hidayat, Ph.D.Ed., President of the Association of Lesson Study Indonesia (ALSI), and was officially opened by Dr. Ir. Sofyan Husein Siregar, M.Phil., Vice Rector IV of Universitas Riau.

The keynote session became the highlight of the event, featuring distinguished speakers: Prof. Manabu Sato (Gakuishin University, Japan), Prof. Dr. Carl Winslow (University of Copenhagen, Denmark), and Prof. Dr. Jimmi Copriady, M.Si. (Universitas Riau, Indonesia). Joining virtually were Prof. Dr. Pete Dudley (University of Cambridge, UK) and Prof. Roberto Araya (University of Chile). The lively discussion, moderated by Prof. Dr. Afrianto, S.Pd., M.Ed., and Yenita Roza, Ph.D., reflected participants’ enthusiasm, as many raised questions on lesson study implementation.

After the lunch break, the program continued with Symposium Plenary Sessions divided into three rooms: 

  • Room A featured Assoc. Prof. Kanako Kusanagi, Ph.D. (Nagoya University, Japan), Dr. Wandee Kasemsukpipat (Kasetsart University, Thailand), and Nurul Aisyah, M.Ed., MBA (Monash University, Australia), moderated by Arif Hidayat, Ph.D.Ed.

  • Room B presented Prof. Dr. Evi Suryawati, M.Pd. (Universitas Riau), Dr. Muhammad Syawal Amran (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), and Prof. Madya Zanaton binti Ikhsan (Malaysia Lesson Study Association/myLS), moderated by Dr. Nofrion, M.Pd.

  • Room C highlighted Prof. Sui Lin Goel (Vrije University, Netherlands), Dr. Visal Moosa (Islamic University of Maldives), and Prof. Liu Liyan (Northeast Normal University, China), moderated by Dr. Dahnil Syah, SS., Dipl. Appl., MA.

 

The sessions were dynamic, with participants actively engaging in discussions and posing numerous questions. The program then proceeded with Parallel Sessions across ten rooms, where participants presented research findings on a wide range of strategic topics related to lesson study and educational development.

The conference concluded with a strong spirit of collaboration. The presence of international experts and the enthusiasm of participants demonstrated that ICLS 2025 was not merely a scientific forum but also a shared space for building global networks in pursuit of sustainable educational transformation.
